Iditarod Trails Girdwood – mountain biking

Riding the Iditarod Trail from Crow Creek Mine down is a super worthy ride on it’s own, or a great addition to an Abe’s, Beaver Pond, or Crow Pass ride.

The trail starts out redone and super mellow gravel.  There are some boardwalks and features, though not technical.  The rain forest in this section is unreal beautiful.

The trail then crosses Crow Creek Rd and heads into a rooty and more technical section – it has not yet had the rework that the first section has . . . it’s fun and pretty rideable throughout.  A good prep for Beaver Pond if that’s how you plan to finish the ride!

The trail crosses again and this third section starts out very smooth and easy and then transitions to lots of hike-a-bike with unrideable (for me) root sections . . . this portion of trail drops you at Girdwood school.  I think there are sneaker exits back to the road but I haven’t really figured those out yet.

If I’m going to combine these trails with another trail, I think I’d forego the third section as it zaps energy and momentum and isn’t that fun.  The first two sections are super great.  The third section is worth it if that’s the only trail you’re riding, in my opinion.
