At ‘only’ 3 miles point-to-point, this is a quick and fun trail in Girdwood. While it is not long, the trail definitely keeps you on your toes with lots of wood bog crossings and technical root sections and you’ll find yourself paying attention the whole time!
The best part is how rain forest-y the trail feels – it’s kind of like being in another world and SO GREEN. Root sections continually arise, and I suggest keeping your bike in a low-ish gear even on descents so you can clear the unexpected tech uphill when it comes. This is definitely a ride where line choice matters!
It can be done on it’s own, or as an addition to another ride. For a longer ride, I suggest a ride up to the Winner Creek parking lot, ride the Iditarod Trail down to California Creek, go up Abe’s, and then ride out the Beaver Pond . . . note: as of summer 2020, there is an aggressive nesting Goshawk on Abe’s Trail and riders are cautioned to stay off the trail!
