Whitewater rafting Sixmile Creek in Hope, Alaska turns out to be as fun as you might think, especially at these high water levels! Flow AK is a new company on the river, run by the core locals that have been guiding it “forever” and have huge passion for what they do!
Sixmile creek is one of the greatest whitewater runs in North America and is also a pristine natural waterway. Four of the five species of pacific salmon call Sixmile home, and wildlife abounds in the drainage – bears, moose, eagles and more! Carving its way through the Chugach national forest, Sixmile creek is an amazing Class IV and V whitewater run!
While I’ve packrafted the first 2 canyons at low water levels, I’ve got to say running it in a big raft at big water was a whole different experience – full value! The canyons are so tight and I’ve never been so glad to have an experienced guide to navigate through – and still plenty thrilling!
I highly recommend going for anyone who’s never been – and I definitely recommend going with Flow AK – they were so awesome! Tons of stoke, skills that gave lots of confidence, and an overall great time!
The trip starts and ends in the adventurous town of Hope, Alaska so it’s easy to grab some great food afterwards, or plan to stay and combine the trip with some hiking, mountain biking (Hope Point, Gull Rock, and Resurrection are all right there!), and checking out one of the coolest towns around! And at just 2 hours from Anchorage, it can be done in a day 🙂
