Jordan day 5: Wadi Rum ‘sunrise spot’ hike, Kerak Castle, Dead Sea

Welcome to the stories of a magical week in Jordan where we navigated the coolest parts of the King’s Highway for an unforgettable week of adventure!

Day 5: Wadi Rum ‘sunrise spot’ hike, Kerak Castle, Dead Sea

We walked the next morning from our camp to the ‘sunrise spot’ although I climbed up some rocks instead of going to the center to see the sunrise . . . my hope was to get away from barking dogs and noise, but I was not successful. Oh well, was a nice excuse to walk regardless.  Back at camp, we tried the showers and were thrilled to find lukewarm water and an overall pleasant experience to spend our day clean!

Turns out the sunrise spot is very close to the sunset spot! Nice morning walk regardless 🙂

A 30 min 4×4 ride out, and we were back to the rental and on our way to Kerak Castle, back on the King’s Highway.  It’s another crusader castle (like Shobuk), but it’s walls are still in use by the city and it’s much less rustic.

Kerak is a much better preserved and a lot bigger by virtue of more being intact.  Much less imagining. But to be honest, that took some of the charm away from it. Maybe it was because at this point we’d seen so many ruins and castles, or maybe because it was so much more formal, but I didn’t enjoy Kerak nearly as much as Shobuk.

From there we were on to the Dead Sea.  We decided to splurge for a nice hotel and chose the Marriott . . . I was super glad we did.  Straight to the mud and swimming/flaoting for a lovely sunset experience. Floating in the Dead Sea is so cool and surreal it’s a definite must-do (from a girl that only marginally believes in must-dos).  I really enjoyed it. By all accounts my skin is nicer from the mud too . . . and it was fun to coat myself in mud like a child. I think that’s as healthy as anything else – why did we ever stop doing such fun things?!?!?   I then splurged on a spa mud wrap and massage . . . so I really better have nice skin! To be honest, the spa mud warp wasn’t different enough from what you could do on your own (and much less fun), so I’d probably just to the massage if I had it to do over again.  Regardless, after the amount of walking we’d done a massage was nice regardless! We enjoyed a lovely dinner on a patio overlooking the water (Italian Restaurant) and even enjoyed some Jordanian wine to top it off!!

The very peaceful Dead Sea

How fun is bathing in the mud?!?! I loved it!

Bathing in the mud is as fun as it seems it may be 🙂

Floating was a TOTAL TRIP!
