I’ve heard a lot about mountain biking April Bowl in Hatcher Pass, so I decided to go check it out myself! Not really knowing the sections commonly ridden, and loving a good walk uphill, I carried much further than the riding was good! Reality is that it’s really only worth going to the first high point and not continuing along the mellower ridge to the summit of Hatch.
The descent is fast and loose, but very rideable! Worthy for sure. Once back at the lakes, you could ride the trail back to the car at Hatcher Pass or take an unimproved trail down a secondary ridge and end lower on the road.
2 locals riding from the summit of Hatch Peak . . . this section is only marginally rideable!
The truly rideable section starts at the point on the center of this photo – lots of carrying a bike before that spot!
Looking back up the fun part!
Just as the main trail departs the ridgeline at the first lake, there’s a small unimproved trail to the right that desecends the ridge to the valley and road below for a bit of car shuttle boost!
The views from the turn-off don’t disappoint!
